How to get music on Spotify
Spotify is not only one of the most popular music streaming apps, but it is also a music hotspot and it submits playlists from artists as well. This can be a boon for emerging artists to get their songs to people or launch their songs and get fame. To add, it pays too! Yes. Spotify pays you money every time your song is downloaded or streamed.
Fortunately, Spotify has made the process very easy and formalized. Spotify does not allow the direct uploading of music on it if you are an unsigned artist. For it, you would have to take the help of a number of music distributors available.
If you are trying to figure out how to do that, we will tell you how. Follow the steps and make the job easy –
Step 1 – Find a music distributor and sign up
First you would have to find a suitable music distributor and sign up with them. All music operators have different terms and conditions. Some would upload your music for free and then keep some amount from your royalties. Some would charge for uploading your music. Some also provide for promotions and performance tracking to give you a boost. Choose accordingly. Some suggestions are –
• CD Baby
Step 2 – Uploading the Music
Go to the upload music or distribution option of your respective music distributor and upload your music on it. Here, you have to take care to upload a file of a good quality. Some may allow you to upload a poor quality file but even then, upload at least 120 kbps file.
Step 3 – The metadata
Now, the music distributor is going to need more than the artist’s and the song’s name. You would have to provide title of the album, track number, copyright info and music genre of course. Some may even ask you to fill out a form. Give the required information.
Step 4 – Artwork
After you have given all the information to the distributor, you would have to provide the album artwork too. If you can think of nothing, give the artist’s photo or their logo.
After all of this is done, your music goes through an approval process. After approval, it takes 3-5 business days for your music to go live on Spotify. Some also provides the option for you to choose a release date to launch your music.
So, the process is not so difficult or costly. If you are a budding artist or are just trying your luck in music, Spotify is a very less costing and easy way for you to take the chance.
